Book Covers
I've just been sitting, looking at my bookcase and really enjoying doing so - effectively looking at the book covers, when it occurred to me - for the first time - that the book covers are in fact misleading with regards to the content of the books. Book covers traditionally have pictures - wacky fonts - and colours. The insides of books traditionally have ... words - just words - all the same font, all in black and white - without pictures. Why do publishers feel they have to advertise books that are full of words with covers that are not?

But surely tis the same for music.
CD's are often sold on image- the strength of a person's looks on videos, magazines and of course the CD cover itself- the music is almost a secondary aspect of the overall package.
I wonder if once you are exposed to all this, is it possible to listen to the music and NOT have those images come to mind? I know I can't help SEEING Madonna when I listen to her albums....
I know I've often bought either a CD or a book because of its cover. Perhaps the cover is more important than the book or the CD. Or important in a different way. In one sense, the cover's irrelevant - while you're reading the book, for instance, does it really matter what's on the cover? I suppose it does when you open and close the book - then you see the cover, you feel it - other people see it. Reading a book is more than actually reading a book. There's all the build-up - the context - which is really important - or it is to me. Hmmm .....
